Firstly, what is travel insurance? Travel insurance is there to protect you from any incident while you are travelling. This can include medical conditions, cancellations, late flight departure, delayed baggage or theft or damage to baggage, and many more incidents.

When should you buy travel insurance?

It is advisable to buy travel insurance whenever you travel, but especially when you travel abroad. Anything could happen and it is important to have the peace of mind that you will be taken care of, no matter what happens or where you are.

Important things to remember

You must keep the following in mind when applying for a travel insurance policy:

  1. Read the policy wording carefully to ensure you select the cover that is most suitable to your needs and financial situation.
  2. When receiving medical treatment for costs higher than R10 000, you MUST call us for authorisation BEFORE you receive the treatment unless you are being treated in the emergency department for a life-threatening condition.
  3. Be sure to declare any pre-existing medical conditions to us when applying for your policy, to ensure that you receive cover for those conditions.
  4. Ensure the country you are travelling to is covered by your policy.
  5. Check what activities are covered in your travel insurance – it might be a good idea to go bungee jumping but remember that not all dangerous activities might be covered.
  6. Be sure to report theft or damage to an official body like the police, within 24 hours of the occurrence – when you submit your claim with us, we will need this report to start processing your request.

Make sure your holiday is as exciting and stress-free as you envisioned it.
