What type of cover am I buying?

Can I make changes to the funeral policy?

Yes. You can make changes to the policy such as adding a family member to the policy, increasing/decreasing the amount of cover, and choosing a new beneficiary.

What is a waiting period?

The waiting period is the time you must wait before you can submit a claim on your policy. If an insured person passes away during this waiting period, the benefit will not be payable. However, you and your loved ones covered under this policy will be protected against accidental death from the date your first premium is paid. For death due to natural causes, there is a waiting period of 6 months, during which 6 benefit premiums must have been paid. For death due to suicide or self-inflicted injury, there is a waiting period of 12 months, during which 12 benefit premiums must have been paid.

Will benefit premiums and benefits amounts increase over the years?

If you are under 65, the benefit premiums and amounts on your policy will automatically increase. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions in your policy document for more details. These increases will stop once you turn 65. For other individuals insured under the policy, their benefit premiums and amounts will also stop increasing when they reach 65. In rare cases, we may need to review your policy premium due to unforeseen circumstances that increase the cost of insuring certain policies. This means your policy premium could increase outside of the normal annual adjustments. If such a review occurs, you will receive a 31-day notice before the increase takes effect.

What are my options if I can’t afford to pay the increased premium?

Who can take out this policy and who can be covered under this policy?

Any person who is between the ages of 18 and 75 years at the start of the policy. All covered persons must be South African citizens with valid South African identity numbers. The person who buys the Funeral policy is covered as the policyholder and premium payer.

How long will the cover last?

Accepted Answer

The Funeral policy provides coverage for insured individuals from the date their benefit commences for their entire life, excluding children. Coverage continues as long as premiums are paid or until the insured person passes away. A child’s cover will end when they turn 24, subject to terms and conditions.

Question 9

Do I have a “cooling-off” period?

Yes, you may cancel this policy by providing us with notice within 31 days from the day you receive the policy documents. If no benefit has been paid or no insured event has occurred during this period, we will refund all the premiums paid, minus the costs for any benefit cover provided. How long does it take for a claim to be paid?
