Hollard Ghana’s Asomdwee MSME Insurance has been recognised with an Impact Award at the 2025 Tokio Marine Group Awards, earning international acclaim for its contribution to the sustainability and resilience of Ghana’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The award highlights the product’s innovative role in addressing long-standing challenges faced by MSMEs in the country.
Developed in partnership with the Ghana Enterprises Agency, Asomdwee MSME Insurance provides a comprehensive risk protection package tailored specifically for small businesses. The solution offers accessible cover for business owners, employees, and critical assets, including employee welfare benefits such as permanent disability, critical illness, and death cover; protection against fire, burglary and other perils; and third-party liability cover.
While Ghana’s MSME sector plays a crucial role in driving economic activity, employment, and innovation, many small businesses still operate without a safety net. Challenges such as limited access to finance, vulnerability to economic shocks, and exposure to natural disasters or business disruptions make resilience a constant concern for them.
Patience Akyianu, Group CEO of Hollard Ghana says, “This recognition by the Tokio Marine Group affirms the difference we are making in strengthening the backbone of Ghana’s economy, our MSMEs. With Asomdwee, we set out to remove barriers that have long left small businesses exposed to risks they cannot recover from. By working with the Ghana Enterprises Agency, we’ve created a solution that goes beyond insurance. It’s about enabling entrepreneurs to thrive, safeguarding livelihoods and building resilience for the future. Every business, no matter its size, deserves the confidence that comes from knowing it is protected.”
By designing a tailored and flexible insurance product, available in packages for different business sizes, with bronze, silver, and gold packages, Hollard Ghana ensures that MSMEs can choose the level of protection that best matches their operational needs and financial capacity.
Pravin Kalpagé, CEO of Hollard International (HINT) commented, “We understand that MSMEs have unique needs and face different pressures compared with larger businesses. Our solutions are designed to address these specific challenges to enable MSMEs to confidently navigate business and life’s uncertainties”.
“We want to play our part in enabling resilience and the sustainability of MSMEs in Ghana, and across the continent, and partnerships like the one we have with the Ghana Enterprises Agency remain central to our strategy. We want to expand the reach and relevance of insurance across the continent.”
"We are of the view that partnerships like these will continue to play a crucial role in showcasing the diverse capabilities of insurance across the continent,” said Kalpagé.
The Tokio Marine Group Awards are guided by the group’s vision, “To be a good company”. The awards recognise businesses that embody ethical leadership, community impact and innovative approaches to customer needs. Recipients of the awards are selected through a rigorous process overseen by the CEO of Tokio Marine Group, Masahiro Koike.
The Hollard Ghana team will formally receive its award at a ceremony in Tokyo on 14 October 2025.
