Making a difference where it counts

At Hollard, we believe in the ‘hands-on’ approach. That’s because we pride ourselves on being catalysts for long-lasting and positive social change. This is underpinned by our passion for making a tangible difference in the lives of South Africans through staff involvement and financial investment.

Our main focus areas:

1. Orphans & vulnerable children through the Hollard Foundation

As an independent trust that is focussed on providing orphans, (primarily affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic), with opportunities to achieve their full potential in life, the Hollard Group has committed to a donation of R50 million to the Hollard Foundation. This will go a long way towards fulfilling our long term dream of assisting orphans and vulnerable children. Click here to visit Hollard Foundation website.

2. Staff Volunteering

Harnessing the energy and caring spirit of our staff is an integral part of our CSI strategy. Our Employee Volunteering Programme was launched in 2008, giving Hollardites a broad range of opportunities to participate in our campaign and be ‘catalysts for enduring and positive social change through payroll giving, funding of Hollardites personal projects, skills volunteering, collection campaigns and support of national CSI days.

Each business unit within Hollard has adopted a CSI project which they support. Hollardites spend time at these projects and participate enthusiastically in:

• Physical activities – school sports days, painting and maintenance of various facilities, sanding desks, planting vegetables and trees
• Skills transfer – PC training, CV writing and interview skills, mentoring and support
• Care and nurturing – interacting and assisting with the care of children with special needs

Some of the areas where our staff have lent a hand and really made a difference include:

1. A youth centre in Kliptown - Hollard has assisted by upgrading facilities and equipment, sponsored the installation of a bakery for income generation, provided educational support and skills training and the setting up of a database of all who attend the centre.


2. A home for children with special needs, south of Johannesburg - this includes interactive events with the children and the supply of specialised occupational equipment for each child.


3. In partnership with McCarthy and the Read Educational Trust sponsored and participated in Rally to Read, every year since 2001.


4. BHP Billiton/Round Table 71 Race Day event – support has been provided for this event over the past four years.


5. National CSI Days:
   
   • Take a Girl Child to Work Day – each year we host an event at Hollard for learners from our various projects, as well as children of our employees
   • Casual Day in support of the disabled of South Africa
   • In-house Shavathon to raise funds and awareness for CANSA
   • Team building events such as partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a needy family in Katlehong
