Making a difference

HOLLARD Corporate Social Investment – MAKING A DIFFERENCE

At Hollard we are passionate about South Africa and committed to making a positive, sustainable difference in the lives of as many South Africans as possible by way of staff involvement and financial investment. In our core business operations we have developed strong partnerships, and have encouraged this partnership philosophy in our CSI strategy, working closely with project stakeholders and communities with a “hands-on” approach, rather than the “sign a cheque” methodology.

Our main focus areas:

Orphans & Vulnerable Children via the Hollard Foundation

The Hollard Group has committed to a donation of R50-million toward fulfilling our long term dream of assisting orphans and vulnerable children.  The Hollard Foundation is an independent trust focused on providing orphans and other vulnerable children, primarily affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, with opportunities to achieve their full potential in life. Staff Volunteering

Harnessing the energy and caring spirit of our staff is encouraged and of great importance for our CSI strategy.

Our Employee Volunteering Programme was launched in 2008 giving Hollardites a broad range of opportunities to participate in our campaign to be “a catalyst for enduring and positive social change” through Payroll Giving, Funding of Hollardites Personal Projects, Skills Volunteering, Collection Campaigns, support of National CSI Days.

Each business unit within Hollard has adopted a CSI project which they support.  Hollardites spend time at these projects and participate enthusiastically in

  1. physical activities – school sports days, painting and maintenance of various facilities, sanding desks, planting vegetables and trees
  2. skills transfer – PC training, CV writing and interview skills, mentoring and support
  3. care and nurturing – interacting and assisting with the care of children with special needs

Just some of the areas were our staff have participated and made a difference:

  1. A youth centre in Kliptown – Hollard has assisted by upgrading facilities and equipment, sponsored the installation of a bakery for income generation, provided educational support and skills training and the setting up of a database of all who attend the centre
  2. A home for children with special needs, south of Johannesburg – interactive events with the children and supply of specialised occupational equipment for each child
  3. Rally to Read, in partnership with McCarthy and the Read Educational Trust – Hollard has sponsored and participated each year since 2001.
  4. BHP Billiton/Round Table 71 Race Day event – support has been provided for this event over the past four years
  5. National CSI Days :
    1. Take a Girl Child to Work Day – each year we host an event at Hollard for learners from our various projects, as well as children of our employees
    2. Casual Day in support of the disabled of South Africa
    3. In-house Shavathon to raise funds and awareness for CANSA
Team building events such as partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a needy family in Katlehong
