You only pay for the distance the insured vehicle travels each month.
You can choose from six DrivePlan options depending on how much you typically use your car; Drive500, Drive750, Drive1000, Drive1250, Drive1500 or DriveMax. The numeral denotes the included kilometres per month. DriveMax offers unlimited mileage.
At inception, Pay As You Drive credits your policy with one extra month of kilometres (called Grace Period Kilometres) to provide a safety net in the event that you have underestimated your typical monthly mileage. Any unused Grace Period Kilometres expire after two months.
For the first 12 months of your policy Pay As You Drive adds 10% Bonus Kilometres to your DriveSave Account. Subsequent allocation of Bonus Kilometres will depend on claims and driver behaviour. Think of it as an immediate “no claim bonus”.
Each vehicle insured by Pay As You Drive needs to have a Data Collection Device installed so that we can get the correct mileage data. There are two options:
The Hollard DriveMate device is plugged into the on-board computer of the insured vehicle and transmits data to Hollard by way of a GSM feed. The cost of this device is R60 per month, or
the Tracker SkyTrax device is discreetly installed into the vehicle, transmits data to Hollard and also provides a Stolen Vehicle Recovery service. The cost of this device is R140 per month.
You will receive a monthly statement that details each trip the insured vehicle travelled in the previous month as well as a breakdown of all kilometre transactions in and out of your DriveSave Account.
Also included in the monthly statement is a recommendation based on the typical mileage travelled by the insured vehicle. So, if on average the insured vehicle travels more OR less than your selected DrivePlan Option, Pay As You Drive will recommend the correct DrivePlan Option for you. You are left to decide whether to migrate to the recommended DrivePlan Option.
Any unused kilometres in a month are retained in your DriveSave Account and can be used to offset high mileage months at a future date.
If the insured vehicle exceeds the kilometres included in your selected DrivePlan Option you can use the kilometres in your DriveSave account. In the event that you exceed your DrivePlan Option’s packaged mileage and have exhausted the kilometres available in your DriveSave Account Pay As You Drive will automatically bill you for the balance on a “rate per kilometre” basis (referred to a DrivePlus Rate).
If you regularly use up all your kilometres every month we’ll recommend a plan change on your monthly statement.
You will never pay more than the DriveMax Option.
Your premiums are made as predictable as possible. We don’t adjust your premiums due to claims at any time other than your policy anniversary.
There’s accidental death cover of R15,000.
Up to R10 million third party liability cover.
Pay As You Drive Assistance Benefit include cover for accident management, roadside assistance and medical assistance.
