DAY-AID provides you with a lump sum for each day you’re hospitalised, provided you are in hospital for 3 consecutive days or more. It’s the ideal way to take care of household expenses whilst you recover.

Not only does DAY-AID  alleviate the stress of returning home and having to face bills, it also offers the following additional benefits:

Daily Hospital Benefit
 
The Daily Hospital Benefit will pay the Daily Hospital Benefit amount (Sum Assured) from day 1 onwards for each full day (i.e. 24-hour period) of hospitalisation, provided that the Insured Person is hospitalised for more than 3 consecutive days as a resident in-patient
Compulsory additional benefits are:

The Policyholder will receive a lump sum amount of up to 20% of premiums received, after every 5 years, provided that their policy has been in place for a continuous period of 5 years at the time the payout is due and all 60 premiums have been received. 
 
Accidental Death Benefit
 
This benefit pays a lumpsum of R50 000 in the event of the accidental death before age 75 of the Main Insured and/or if applicable the Main Insured’s Partner
 
Accidental Disability Benefit
 
This benefit pays a lumpsum of R50 000 in the event of accidental disability before age 65.
 
Public Transport Accident Benefit
 
An additional amount of R10 000 will be paid if the Insured Person dies or becomes disabled as the result of an accident while travelling as a fare paying passenger on public transport

A: Hollard will not pay a benefit if the claim results directly or indirectly from an insured person:

  • driving while drunk;
  • refusing or failing to look for or not complying with medical treatment;
  • using drugs without a prescription or for the treatment of an addiction;
  • engaging in terrorist activities;
  • working for the army, navy, police or correctional services;
  • providing security or protection services;
  • taking part in any hazardous activities or professional sports;
  • being involved in a labour disturbance, riot, strike or lock-out;
  • being involved in an accident before the start of cover, where the accident resulted in the death or disability of the insured person;
  • being hospitalised before the start of cover or being hospitalisation from an accident that occurred before the start of cover;
  • being hospitalised for obesity, cosmetic or plastic surgery, mental illness, mental disorders, stress, infertility, artificial insemination, routine examination, routine tests or self-admission;
  • being hospitalised for the treatment or investigation of pain and pain related conditions;
  • being hospitalised for pregnancy or complications in the first 7 months of pregnancy;
  • being hospitalised in a Hospital outside of the country (unless hospitalisation is due to a Medical Emergency);
  • intentionally injuring or killing themselves; 
  • committing a criminal act;
  • being outside the country for more than 3 months.

Hollard will also not pay a benefit if:

  • you or the person claiming a benefit not being honest about the information we ask;
  • a claim is the result of any criminal acts committed by you or an insured person;
  • a claim results from the use of nuclear, biological, chemical or explosive weapons.
A: The Day-Aid Plan is a hospital cover designed to help remove the stress and financial pressure of being in hospital. The DAY-AID plan will assure that if you or any member of your immediate family were hospitalized due to an accident or illness, you would receive a pay-out of up to R5,000 a day for up to 180 days which, for a single incident, could be as much as R900,000. The Daily Hospital Benefit will pay the Sum Assured from day 1 for each full day (i.e. 24-hour period) of hospitalization, provided that the person who is insured is hospitalized for more than 3 consecutive days as a resident in-patient. You can claim after you have been discharged or spent 30 days in hospital.
A: The DAY-AID hospital cash back plan has a great money back benefit, which means that you will receive up to 20% of the premiums paid back after every 5 years provided your policy has been active continuously for the 5 years when the benefit is payable and Hollard received all 60 premiums. The money back benefit applies to premiums paid but we do not pay back the portion on the policy fees. The plan also includes a Accidental Death Benefit and an Accidental Disability Benefit, which pays a once off amount of R50,000 in the event of accidental death before age 75 or accidental disability before age 65 of the Main Insured and/or Partner. The Public Transport Accident Benefit pays an additional amount of R10 000 if the Insured Person dies or becomes disabled as the result of an accident while travelling as a fare paying passenger on public transport
A: Hollard will not pay a benefit if the claim results directly or indirectly from an insured person being hospitalised in a Hospital outside of the country (unless hospitalisation is due to a Medical Emergency)
A: Should you miss any premium payment, Hollard Life may debit your bank account at a later date when sufficient funds are available in your account or debit your account twice the following month to keep your policy up-to-date. Should you miss 2 consecutive premiums your policy will lapse.
A: There is no waiting period for these benefits and cover is immediate after paying the first premium.
A: You do not need to have any medical tests as a pre-qualifying condition, but there are waiting periods that will apply and these are explained in the table below.
A: The waiting periods are as follows:

A: You can be admitted to any hospital (as defined in the policy wording) whether it?s a private or government hospital, we will pay you, not the hospital or doctor.
A: You can claim as long as you are hospitalised for at least 3 days. Claims are payable at the end of the period of hospitalisation (i.e. on discharge) or when 30 (thirty) days benefit is due, whichever is earlier. Each insured person is covered for a maximum of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days of hospitalisation in total after which their cover ceases to exist.
A: The Daily Hospital Benefit will pay the Sum Assured from day 1 for each full day (i.e. 24-hour period) of hospitalization, provided that the person who is insured is hospitalized for more than 3 consecutive days as a resident in-patient. A: You need to be a South African citizen or legal permanent resident. You also need to have a South African bank account.
A: The plan can also cover your partner/spouse and a maximum of 4 children.
A: This plan is not a medical aid as it DOES NOT provide similar cover and is not a substitute for medical aid membership.
A: Day Aid will pay you an agreed amount for every day that you are in Hospital. This amount accumulates and will be paid to you as a lump sum after your discharge, or after 30 days – provided, of course, we’ve received all valid documentation. This money is yours to spend on whatever you need - like rent, electricity, transport, groceries and other living expenses.
