Hollard CEO Nic Kohler cycles in support of the Change-A-Life Initiative
Date posted: 31 Oct 2012
In support of one of our fundamental principles to conduct our business in a manner that brings about positive social and enduring change, Hollard is one of the main sponsors for this year's Change-A-Life Cycle Tour. The aim is to raise more than R3 million in support of anti-crime and upliftment projects. From 20-24 September 2012, Nic , along with other industry leaders cycled 555 kilometres across Waterberg, climbing 5000 metres during the course of the tour.
Hollard's involvement in the Computershare Change-A-Life Initiative is based on our support for the idea that safer communities and a more sustainable South Africa can best be achieved through tackling both the causes and the effects of the problems we face as a nation.
Combating crime by not only increasing resources available to crime fighters and providing support for victims, but also addressing the far more complex task of nurturing positive role models in troubled areas is an idea that resonates quite strongly with our approach of always seeking to create positive and enduring change. As really important stakeholders in Hollard (and most South African businesses), these communities deserve our respect, our support and our assistance.
As an insurance company addressing both the personal and asset insurance needs of the broadest possible spectrum of South African consumers, the issue of crime impacts directly on Hollard's bottom line. This is one of the reasons that support for the Change-A-life Initiative makes sense to us. However, it is certainly not the main reason.
We at Hollard firmly believe that the old saying that "the business of business is business" no longer applies. Instead, it is up to business to create a more sustainable environment through building social and environmental capital as well as financial capital. The Change-A-Life Cycle Tour is an important way for Hollard to contribute to this building of sustainable social capital. I am exceptionally proud that Hollard is a part of this highly impactful initiative and we all wish it growing success in the future.
